In recent years, supply chain pundits and consultants emphasized the importance of strategies such as just-in-time, lean manufacturing, offshoring or frequent deliveries to retail outlets. But, with rising oil prices, now above $100 per barrel, and estimated by various investment banks such as Goldman Sachs to reach $200 by 2010, some of these strategies may imperil the supply chain.
