Gambro deploys LogicTools’ network design to re-align after acquisitions and divestiture over 5 years of supply chain design activity in Europe and the US

Chicago - December 14th, 2005: LogicTools, a leading developer of strategic supply chain planning solutions, announced today that Gambro, a global leader in renal care, healthcare services and blood-component technologies has successfully deployed LogicTools’ network design solution for the past five years to continually analyze and re-align its North American and European networks.

Gambro has more than 11,000 employees in 40 countries working together to deliver critical blood- and cell-related products and services to people around the world and has been publicly listed on the Stockholm stock exchange since 1983. The company started with the first artificial kidney invented by Professor Nils Alwall. Soon after, in 1964, Gambro was founded when industrialist Holger Crafoord felt he had to develop and market this life saving innovation. Initial development began in Lund, Sweden and mass production of single-use artificial kidneys and dialysis machines was started in 1967.

Over the years, significant acquisitions have helped broaden Gambro’s range of products and services. Today Gambro makes dialysis products, operates dialysis clinics, and supplies blood bank technology worldwide.

On October 5th, 2005 Gambro announced the closing of the sale of its US clinics business to DaVita Inc. Under terms of the agreement, Gambro will be the preferred supplier of key renal products to DaVita.

"We have been able to successfully use LogicNet Plus for studies in the US over the last 5 years and over the past year we’ve focused our efforts on our European network" said Phil Hendricks, Director of Transportation at Gambro. "Having the technology in-house has allowed our network to stay efficient through many changes in both the market and our company. LogicNet Plus allows us to analyze complex situations, has been easy to use and we have always had the backing of the excellent team at LogicTools."

Using LogicTools solutions, companies like Gambro who operate in a fast moving environment, can reduce costs through understanding their supply chain structure and the trade offs that impact their costs. LogicTools provides the solutions that optimize the supply chain by considering the entire network, taking into account production, warehousing, transportation and inventory costs, as well as service level requirements. The solution’s ease of use and high performance make it the first choice of the leading companies in network planning.
