LogicTools Presents Supply Chain Excellence 2003: Procurement and Inventory Strategies Symposium
One-day event brings together leading experts to discuss strategies and tactics for improving profitability and competitiveness through more agile supply chain practices
June 26, 2003

Chicago - June 26, 2003 - While the economy is beginning to show signs of breaking out of its three-year doldrums, much of the focus for manufacturers continues to be on driving down the cost of doing business. On October 17, 2003, supply chain planning tools developer LogicTools (www.logic-tools.com) will address these concerns by hosting a symposium featuring several academic and business leaders who will discuss strategies and techniques for improving profitability and reducing costs by strategically positioning inventory throughout the supply chain.

The symposium, which is being held at the Summit Executive Center in Chicago, will include presentations by top supply chain experts from Descartes Systems, LogicTools, and SAP, as well as case studies and panel discussions by executives from General Motors, Kraft Foods, Ipiranga, and Timken. David Simchi-Levi, who is Chairman of the Board of LogicTools as well as a Professor of Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will also make a presentation on new approaches to reducing procurement costs.

"The number one concern of business leaders in the global economy is to remain competitive," says Simchi-Levi. "That means they need to be able to analyze the drivers of inventory in order to improve supply chain performance. It's all about using information to look at 'what if' scenarios and ultimately making decisions. The presenters at the symposium have lived it, and will be presenting best practices for optimizing inventory in the supply chain to balance variability in demand, production and lead times with service requirements. We're excited to be able to bring so much expertise together under one roof."

In addition to these topics, the symposium will also address issues such as:
  • Best practices in global sourcing: trade-offs between outsourcing vs. vertical integration
  • Gaining competitive advantage by managing risk and uncertainty in the supply chain
  • Generating significant value using inventory optimization while leveraging existing IT infrastructure

The full-day symposium is aimed at supply chain, manufacturing, procurement, and operations executives and practitioners who are interested in applying new concepts in supply chain technology while maximizing the ROI on their existing software. The cost is $265 per person, although early registration and group discounts are available. Registration must be received by October 10, 2003; there is no on-site registration. Those interested in attending should contact Aimee Ortiz at 888-265-4706 or visit www.supplychainexpert.com.
